Who Is Rosé?

Rosé, born Roseanne Park (박채영, Park Chaeyoung), is a New Zealand and South Korean singer, songwriter, and global fashion icon. She was born on February 11, 1997, in Auckland, New Zealand. She is best known as the main vocalist and lead dancer of the internationally dominant girl group Blackpink.

Since debuting with Blackpink in August 2016, Rosé has built one of the most celebrated careers in K-pop history. Moreover, her 2024 solo debut album Rosie and her record-shattering collaboration with Bruno Mars on “APT.” transformed her into a globally recognized solo superstar.

She has appeared on Time’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2025 and on the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity 40 in 2025 and 2026. She received a South Korean Presidential Commendation in 2025 for her contribution to popular culture and was inducted into the Asian Hall of Fame in 2026.

Furthermore, her accolades include a Brit Award, eight Guinness World Records, six MAMA Awards, three Melon Music Awards, a Golden Disc Award, and an MTV Video Music Award. She became the first Korean artist to win a Brit Award and the first to win Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Early Life: From Auckland to Melbourne to Seoul

Born in Auckland, Raised in Melbourne

Roseanne Park was born on February 11, 1997, in Auckland, New Zealand. She grew up in Melbourne, Australia, where she spent much of her childhood and early adolescence.

Her home life was multicultural. Her father is Korean, and her mother is of mixed Korean and New Zealand heritage. She has an older sister named Alice Park.

She speaks three languages fluently — Korean, English, and Japanese. Her natural ease with English would later define her musical identity, making her the only Blackpink member to release a solo album entirely in English.

The Audition That Changed Everything (2012)

In 2012, at just 15 years old, Rosé attended an audition held by YG Entertainment in Australia. She ranked first. That result changed her life completely.

Shortly after, she moved to South Korea to begin her trainee journey under YG Entertainment. She trained for approximately four years and two months — a rigorous period of vocal training, dance practice, and performance preparation.

During this time, she joined YG Entertainment as a trainee in 2010 after moving back to South Korea from New Zealand. Her discipline and dedication during those years were evident from the very first moment Blackpink appeared before the public.

Blackpink Career: The Making of a Global Icon

Blackpink Debut (August 8, 2016)

Rosé was officially revealed as the fourth and final member of Blackpink on June 22, 2016. The group debuted on August 8, 2016, under YG Entertainment with their first single album Square One. The singles “Whistle” and “Boombayah” topped the charts in South Korea immediately.

Within Blackpink, Rosé holds the position of main vocalist and lead dancer alongside Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa.

Blackpink’s Global Rise

Blackpink became a phenomenon unlike any other in K-pop history. With over 40 billion streams and 20 million records sold worldwide, Blackpink is one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. Blackpink has the most US Billboard Hot 100 entries among Korean female acts.

Rosé contributed to major milestones across the group’s discography. These included the group’s chart-topping singles “Pink Venom,” “Shut Down,” and the 2025 comeback single “Jump.” Furthermore, their extended play Deadline (2026) set first-day and first-week sales records for a Korean girl group.

Throughout her Blackpink journey, Rosé greatly contributed to most of the bridges and melodious, acoustic sections of the group’s tracks. Her individual vocal colour remained one of the most distinctive sounds in all of K-pop.

Solo Career: The Road to Rosé

Debut Single Album: R (March 12, 2021)

Rosé became the second Blackpink member to release a solo work. On March 12, 2021, she released her debut single album R through YG Entertainment and Interscope Records.

The album featured two tracks — “On the Ground” and “Gone.” She personally contributed to the songwriting of both tracks. At an online press conference, she described her approach: “Since this is my solo debut, I wanted to try out different sounds and different vocal techniques.”

The release was met with warm critical reception, with praise focused on her vocals and her writing. “On the Ground” made her the first Korean female solo artist to chart on the UK Singles Chart at the time.

A New Chapter: Signing With The Black Label and Atlantic Records (2024)

In late 2023, Blackpink members renewed their group contract with YG Entertainment. However, YG Entertainment revealed that although Rosé, alongside the other members of Blackpink, renewed their contracts for group activities, they did not sign with the agency for their individual activities.

Therefore, Rosé chose to manage her individual career independently. On June 17, 2024, The Black Label confirmed that they were currently discussing signing an exclusive contract with Rosé. The following day, it was announced that Rosé was now under the label for her solo activities. She also signed with Atlantic Records for her US activities.

This was the decision that opened the next chapter — the biggest chapter — of her career.

“APT.” With Bruno Mars: A Record-Breaking Global Smash

The Release That Changed Everything (October 18, 2024)

“APT.” was released through The Black Label and Atlantic Records on October 18, 2024, as the lead single from Rosé’s debut studio album Rosie (2024). The song spent 12 weeks atop the Billboard Global 200, becoming Rosé and Mars’s second number-one single each and the number-one song on the 2025 year-end chart.

The song topped charts in 51 countries. It earned Rosé her first Perfect All Kill (PAK) as a solo artist. It was the biggest debut by any artist in 2024 on Spotify. Additionally, it became the fastest K-pop music video to reach 300 million views on YouTube.

In South Korea, “APT.” scored six consecutive weeks at number one on the Circle Digital Weekly Chart — the longest-running number one by a soloist in 2024.

The IFPI’s Biggest-Selling Global Single of 2025

The song’s dominance extended well into 2025. IFPI confirmed that “APT.” is the Official Biggest-Selling Global Single of the Year 2025, following one of the most competitive years in the chart’s history. The track reached 2.06 billion global chart units. It is the first time the IFPI Global Single Chart has been topped by an artist outside of North America or Europe, and the first time a winning single has featured non-English lyrics.

This was historic. No K-pop act had ever reached this milestone before.

Rosie Album (December 6, 2024): A Debut for the Ages

Released on December 6, 2024, the twelve-track album Rosie is sung entirely in English. Rosé described the album as a “time capsule” in an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music — a collection of stories and emotions gathered during her years in Blackpink, finally shared with the world as a solo artist.

She participated in writing and composing all twelve songs on the album. This creative involvement was deeply personal. It was the clearest statement yet of her identity as an independent artist.

The album made Rosé the highest-charting Korean female soloist in both the United States and the United Kingdom. According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, Rosie was the 19th best-selling album worldwide across all formats in 2025, and the 15th best-selling album in streaming.

Key Tracks From Rosie

The album featured three singles alongside “APT.” — “Number One Girl” (released November 22, 2024), “Toxic Till the End” (released December 6, 2024), and “3AM.” Each track displayed a different dimension of Rosé’s artistry, ranging from indie-pop vulnerability to pop-punk energy.

“Toxic Till the End” was awarded Best Vocal Performance at the 2025 MAMA Awards and Best Digital Song at the 40th Golden Disc Awards.
