Jisoo
31 years old
Who Is Jisoo?
Kim Ji-soo (김지수), known mononymously as Jisoo, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born on January 3, 1995. She is one of the most recognized names in global pop culture today.
Jisoo wears many crowns. She is the eldest member, lead vocalist, and visual of BLACKPINK. She is also a solo artist, a drama lead, and a fashion icon.
With over two million album sales, Jisoo is the best-selling female Korean soloist in Circle Chart history. Furthermore, she attracts over 79 million Instagram followers and has generated billions of streams.
Early Life: Growing Up in Gunpo
A City South of Seoul
Kim Ji-soo was born on January 3, 1995, in the prosperous city of Gunpo, Gyeonggi, South Korea. She was raised in a well-established family, surrounded by love and support. Jisoo grew up alongside her two siblings, Kim Ji-yoon and Kim Jung-hoon.
Jisoo is the only BLACKPINK member who was raised entirely in her home country. This makes her connection to Korean culture especially deep. It also gives her a natural authenticity that fans around the world respond to.
A Passion for the Arts
From a young age, Jisoo displayed a passion for the performing arts. She attended the famous School of Performing Arts Seoul high school. This gave her a strong academic and artistic foundation. It also placed her at the heart of South Korea’s most talented young performers.
Her family recognized her potential early. Because of their support, she had the confidence to take the next big step.
Joining YG Entertainment (2011)
Her first tryout was with YG Entertainment, a South Korean talent agency and production company that was assembling the next big K-pop act. Beginning in 2011, Jisoo trained for five years in a rigorous song-and-dance camp alongside several other girls competing for a spot in what would become BLACKPINK.
Those five years were not easy. Training was intense. Competition was fierce. However, Jisoo’s dedication never wavered.
Jisoo was slowly and cryptically introduced to the general public, with YG initially unveiling her as “Mystery Girl No. 2,” before her picture and name were revealed in early 2013. Interest was so high that Jisoo received an offer to join rival label SM Entertainment when a manager tried to recruit her at a concert.
Education
After completing her high school education, Jisoo enrolled at the prestigious Korea National University of Arts, where she pursued a degree in music. She therefore combined formal academic training with her intensive preparation at YG, building both intellectual and artistic credibility.
BLACKPINK: The Group That Changed Everything
Debut in August 2016
Jisoo debuted as one of the four members of girl group BLACKPINK on August 8, 2016, alongside Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa.
The debut was electric. BLACKPINK exploded onto the global stage almost immediately. Within two years, they had become one of the biggest acts on the planet.
Because she was the youngest sibling in her family, being the oldest member of BLACKPINK — nicknamed Unnie (older sister) by the other girls — was an adjustment. Nevertheless, she embraced the role with grace and warmth.
Her Role in the Group
Jisoo serves as the lead vocalist and visual of BLACKPINK. Her voice anchors the group’s softer harmonies. Her stage presence anchors their visual identity.
While BLACKPINK members do not have designated roles, Jisoo has been noted for keeping the group’s vocal harmonies together.
She also contributed beyond just performing. Jisoo contributed songwriting credits to “Yeah Yeah Yeah,” the fourth track from BLACKPINK’s second studio album, Born Pink (2022).
Her favorite BLACKPINK song? In her 2023 Wired interview, she said her favorite BLACKPINK song is “Love To Hate Me” from 2020’s The Album.
BLACKPINK’s Deadline World Tour (2025–2026)
Jisoo continues to delight audiences on BLACKPINK’s Deadline World Tour, which has sold out stadiums on multiple continents.
During the tour, she performs her solo set, including tracks from her Amortage EP. The tour represents one of BLACKPINK’s most ambitious undertakings to date. Moreover, it confirms the group’s enduring global dominance nearly a decade after their debut.
She first connected with Tommy Hilfiger at New York Fashion Week spring 2025. Since then, she has appeared in multiple campaigns, with Hilfiger designing custom couture looks for the BLACKPINK 2025 Deadline World Tour.
Solo Music Career: Breaking Records Independently
Me — The Historic Debut Single Album (March 2023)
In March 2023, Jisoo released her debut single album Me, which became the best-selling album by a female soloist in South Korea and the first to sell over a million copies. Its lead single “Kkoch (Flower)” was a commercial success, peaking at number 2 on the Billboard Global 200 and the Circle Digital Chart and breaking the record for the highest-charting song by a Korean female soloist on the Canadian Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.
The numbers were staggering. The album debuted at number one on the Circle Album Chart with 1.03 million copies sold in less than two days.
It was therefore not just a debut. It was a statement.
Founding BLISSOO (2024)
On February 21, 2024, Jisoo established her label Blissoo. This was a bold move. She chose to run her solo career independently — on her own terms, with her own creative vision.
She also has an older brother, Jung-hoon, who co-manages Jisoo’s label Blissoo. This family partnership adds a personal and trusted dimension to her business operations.
Amortage EP — First Independent Release (February 2025)
On January 28, 2025, it was announced that she signed a global label deal with Warner Records for her solo music. She released her first EP Amortage through Blissoo and Warner on February 14. The album sold 385,501 in its first day in South Korea, breaking the record for the highest sales debut of the year by a Korean solo artist.
The EP was led by the singles “Earthquake” and “Your Love.” The single “Earthquake” became her first number one on the US Billboard World Digital Songs chart.
Furthermore, her first self-released solo project, Amortage, was supported by her first Asia tour.
“Eyes Closed” feat. Zayn (October 2025)
On October 10, 2025, Jisoo released the single “Eyes Closed,” a duet with English singer Zayn. The song debuted at number 72 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and earned Jisoo her first entry on the chart as a solo artist. It also debuted at number 37 on the UK Singles Chart and surpassed “Flower” as Jisoo’s highest-charting entry on the chart.
The duet captures the nervous anticipation and thrilling freefall of diving into new love without looking back.
It all began when Zayn was seen attending a BLACKPINK concert in New York in July 2025, accompanied by his daughter, Khai. Speculation grew from there. The song was officially confirmed in October, and the response from fans worldwide was immediate and overwhelming.
What Comes Next: Full Solo Album
Jisoo opened up about her next steps in music during a Vanity Fair feature released on October 22, 2025. She teased a bigger album this time, with more songs than her previous mini album Amortage, which had just four tracks.
She confirmed that her first full-length solo album is being held until after BLACKPINK’s group activity around the Deadline cycle settles, with a target window in late 2026 — describing the album as showing a “wider range” than her previous EP-scale solo work.
Fans are watching closely. The anticipation is enormous.
Acting Career: From Cameos to Leading Roles
Early Cameo (2015)
She made her acting debut with a cameo role in the 2015 series The Producers. It was a small step. However, it planted a seed that would grow into a full parallel career.
Snowdrop — First Leading Role (JTBC, 2021–2022)
She played her first leading role in the JTBC series Snowdrop (2021–22), for which she won the Best Actress Award at the 2022 Seoul International Drama Awards.
The drama made waves. Jisoo’s performance proved that she was not merely a pop star trying acting. She was a genuine actress with real emotional range.
Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman (2023)
She followed up with a role in the 2023 movie Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman. Additionally, Jisoo made a special cameo appearance as a Korean traditional fairy in the film Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman.
Newtopia — Zombie Drama (2025)
In 2025, Jisoo starred as Kang Young-joo in the zombie TV series Newtopia. The role showed a completely different side of her. It confirmed her ability to take on genre-diverse projects and succeed in each one.
Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy — Film Debut (2025)
The film was released on July 23, 2025, and marked her first leading movie role as Lee Ji-hye alongside actor Lee Min-ho. This was a landmark moment. She crossed from television into major theatrical cinema — with one of Korea’s biggest stars opposite her.
Boyfriend on Demand — Netflix Romantic Comedy (2026)
Through spring 2026, Jisoo’s main visible work has been her Netflix romantic comedy Boyfriend on Demand, which premiered March 6, 2026, opposite Seo In-guk.
The show introduced Jisoo to an entirely new global audience on Netflix. It also demonstrated her natural ease with lighter, comedic material — a fresh dimension for an already versatile performer.
Fashion: Jisoo and Dior
Fashion has always been central to Jisoo’s public identity. She does not simply wear clothes. She shapes trends.
She has been recognized for her influence in fashion as a global ambassador for Dior and Cartier.
Her influence on beauty trends is equally remarkable. Her “dot style,” a makeup idea she originated, trended on social media platforms. Furthermore, her two-bow hairstyle and makeup for the group’s “How You Like That” teasers went viral globally.
She is the most-followed Korean actress on Instagram. As of July 2026, she has 80.1 million Instagram followers, and a combined total of 102.2 million followers across Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
Personal Life: Family and Privacy
Jisoo keeps her personal life close. She rarely discusses romantic relationships publicly. However, she has openly celebrated her family.
Jisoo grew up alongside her two siblings, Kim Ji-yoon and Kim Jung-hoon. Her brother Jung-hoon now co-manages her label Blissoo, keeping family at the heart of her business.
Because she was the youngest sibling in her family, being the oldest member of BLACKPINK — nicknamed Unnie (older sister) by the other girls — was an adjustment. Over time, she grew into the role naturally. Her warmth and reliability as a group elder have become defining traits of her personality.
Awards and Achievements
Jisoo has been awarded several accolades throughout her career, including two Golden Disc Awards, three MAMA Awards, a Circle Chart Music Award, and the Seoul International Drama Award for Outstanding Korean Actress.
Beyond individual awards, her sales records speak for themselves. She is, as of 2026, the best-selling female Korean soloist in Circle Chart history. Furthermore, she became the first soloist to enter the Circle Album Chart at number one.
