Who Is PlaqueBoyMax?
PlaqueBoyMax, born Maxwell Elliot Dent, is an American online streamer, record producer, and rapper from West Orange, New Jersey. He was born on April 3, 2003.
Across music and streaming, Max has accumulated more than 350 million global streams, nearly 10 million monthly Spotify listeners, and over 4.6 million followers on Twitch and YouTube.
Furthermore, he became the first Twitch streamer to ever earn a Grammy nomination — a historic milestone for the entire creator community.
Early Life and Background
West Orange, New Jersey
Maxwell Elliot Dent was born and raised in West Orange, New Jersey. He is of Western Bantu, Ivorian, and Beninese descent — a rich multicultural heritage that informs his worldview and creative instincts.
He graduated from West Orange High School in 2021 and has been streaming full-time since then.
His parents are academics. Because of this, pursuing streaming was not an obvious path. He made a 30-slide PowerPoint presentation to convince his parents to let him pursue streaming. That determination alone tells you everything about who Maxwell Dent is.
The Name: PlaqueBoyMax
The name PlaqueBoyMax is not random. He created his Twitch account under the moniker PlaqueBoyMax, inspired by YouTube Creator Awards, otherwise known as plaques. It was a declaration of ambition from day one. The name said: he was here to win.
Career Journey: From Editor to Empire
Starting: “Max the Editor” to Max the Streamer
After earning over 190,000 YouTube subscribers and eventually getting his first YouTube plaque, it was clear that Max wanted to be a personality — that he wanted to go from being “Max the Editor” to Max the streamer.
He began his Twitch career in 2021. However, the wider world did not pay attention immediately.
Joining FaZe Clan (April 2024): The Breakthrough Moment
Things went into turbo mode in early 2024 when he was one of the new recruits for the esports brand FaZe Clan, boosting his popularity partially due to the success of their Subathon.
Max joined FaZe Clan in April 2024, a major milestone for any streamer. His audience grew rapidly. His name started appearing everywhere. Nevertheless, he always had bigger plans brewing beneath the surface.
The “In The Booth” Series: A New Format for Music and Streaming
Shortly after joining FaZe Clan, PlaqueBoyMax began his “In The Booth” series. It sees the streamer invite celebrities as guests as they join forces to make music live on Twitch.
Sometimes, he serves as the engineer and the producer. Through it all, he maintains an energetic atmosphere — but he makes sure to lock in to offer the same sort of feedback you’d expect from any young and engaged engineer or producer. It’s sort of like a fusion between Verzuz and a rapper study hall.
In the last few months alone, the streamer has served as the rapper, producer, and engineer for famed artists like 41, Lazer Dim 700, Ian, and DDG.
Additionally, Lazer Dim 700’s “Laced Max,” which is the first track that PlaqueBoyMax recorded live with a prolific artist, is his biggest hit.
The format was groundbreaking. PlaqueBoyMax put himself at the center of a new frontier of artist-fan interaction — and the whole internet watched.
Will Smith and the Drake Cosign
The “In The Booth” format attracted massive names. In March, American actor and rapper Will Smith appeared on Max’s stream to promote his album Based on a True Story.
Furthermore, the ITB series even got a cosign from Drake during the rapper’s Christmas livestream giveaway. A cosign from Drake is not something most streamers ever dream of. PlaqueBoyMax made it happen on a Twitch stream.
Leaving FaZe Clan (August 2025): Betting on Himself
On August 5, Dent announced his departure from FaZe Clan to focus on his own brand, 5$TAR.
His exit was described as amicable, allowing him to fully dedicate his energy to his rapidly expanding music career as a rapper and record producer.
This was a bold move. However, it was entirely consistent with who Maxwell Dent is. He had never needed a larger organization to define him. He built his own.
Music Career: From Streams to the Grammy Stage
5$TAR Records: Building His Own Label
Max recently started his own record label, 5$TAR Records, and is parlaying his streaming fame into a pursuit of music success as a rapper and beatmaker.
Every business decision he has made has pointed in the same direction — ownership. He is not an artist waiting for a label to discover him. He built the label himself.
The LONDON and ATLANTA EPs (2025)
PlaqueBoyMax made his first two EPs, 2025’s LONDON and ATLANTA, by traveling to those cities, recruiting local stars, and recording the entire projects during livestream events.
This was a bold and genuinely original idea. He turned the recording session into the content. Therefore, the music and the stream became one.
Five Forever Debut Mixtape (May 30, 2025)
In May this year, he dropped his debut solo mixtape, Five Forever, under Field Trip Recordings.
Five Forever strips away all the excess and attention-grabbing approaches to making an album. Without any features, Max takes center stage for the very first time, retiring his role as master of ceremonies and approaching the mic with the confidence of someone who has been co-signed by many of the biggest names in the game.
It is clear that PlaqueBoy is heavily influenced by boundary-pushing rappers like Playboi Carti and Yeat, even embracing their use of clever one-liners and bass-heavy beats accented by glimmering, blown-out synths.
His first mixtape is riddled with psychedelic and cloud rap influences and scaled the Apple Hip-Hop charts, reaching the top position.
“Victory Lap” with Fred again.. and Skepta: A Historic Record
Then came the collaboration that changed everything.
Max links up with Fred again.. and Skepta to produce the track “Victory Lap” — a collaboration born on his stream.
Earlier in the year, Max became the first streamer to receive a Grammy nomination, earning a Best Dance/Electronic Recording nod for “Victory Lap,” his collaboration with Fred again.. The trio later won Best Dance Act at the BRIT Awards, and Max then embarked on the international Victory Lap Tour.
He responded to the news of his Grammy nomination via livestream: “Yoooo… We did it, oh shit. Let me get some Ws in the chat. Damn, bro.”
Additional 2025 Releases
On December 5, 2025, Dent released his third EP, Too Much Music. Furthermore, on October 26, 2025, Dent, Young Dabo, Che, and Xaviersobased met at ComplexCon 2025 to record their track “Motto.”
2026 Releases: Crash Dummy, “wyd,” and “Diva”
On May 1, 2026, he released his fourth EP, Crash Dummy.
He issued “Thong Song” in June and the Crash Dummy EP in May, after sharing “wyd” with Bryson Tiller and a video featuring Keke Palmer.
PlaqueBoyMax has released his new single “Diva” via Field Trip Recordings and Capitol Records. The song shares its title with the catchphrase he used during Kai Cenat’s Streamer University, where he gained more than 400,000 followers in less than a week.
Streamer University and Complex Rankings (2026)
In July 2026, Dent participated as a student in the second installment of Kai Cenat’s Streamer University creator bootcamp.
On Complex’s “Hip Hop Media Power Ranking: The 2026 Edition,” Dent was ranked at #10 out of #35. This places him firmly among the most influential figures in hip-hop media today.
Awards and Recognition
PlaqueBoyMax has collected a remarkable set of accolades for a creator who only began streaming full-time in 2021.
In December 2025, the Streamer Awards named him Best Music Streamer and gave In The Booth Best Streamed Series.
Moreover, he was nominated for the 2025 XXL Freshman Class — a recognition reserved for the most exciting emerging names in hip-hop.
Additionally, the Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Recording and the subsequent BRIT Award win for Best Dance Act cemented his place not just in streaming history — but in music history.

Personal Life
Maxwell Elliot Dent keeps his personal life largely private. He is of Western Bantu, Ivorian, and Beninese descent. He grew up in West Orange, New Jersey, in an academic household.
Plaqueboymax turned down a multi-million-dollar gambling sponsorship to protect his younger audience. This decision speaks volumes about his character and his long-term vision for his brand.
He is currently unmarried.
