Désiré Doué
Who Is Désiré Doué?
Désiré Doué is one of the most exciting young footballers in the world today. He plays as a right winger and attacking midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team.
His full name is Désiré Nonka-Maho Doué. He was born on June 3, 2005, in Angers, France, and holds dual French and Ivorian citizenship. He stands 1.81 m (5 ft 11 in) tall and plays with his right foot.
In just two seasons at PSG, Doué has scored 29 goals in 102 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain. Furthermore, he scored twice in a Champions League final at the age of 19, was named man of the match, and helped PSG win their first-ever European Cup. He then went on to represent France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Early Life: Angers, Ivory Coast Roots, and a Football Family
Born to Play Football
Désiré Doué was born on June 3, 2005, in Angers, a city in western France. He has European roots through France and African roots through Ivory Coast, his father’s homeland. This dual heritage gives him both French and Ivorian citizenship.
Growing up, football was not just a pastime. It was a way of life. His entire family is deeply connected to the sport.
A Remarkable Football Family
Football runs deep in the Doué family. It includes fellow professionals Yann Gboho, Marc Olivier Doué, and Eddie Doué. Their uncle, Noumandiez Désiré Doué, is a renowned referee who officiated at the 2014 World Cup — the first Ivorian to referee a World Cup match.
Additionally, his older brother Guéla Doué is also a professional footballer. The two brothers, separated by just two years, both came through the Rennes academy and have followed similar paths. Their cousin, Yann Gboho of Toulouse FC, is also a member of the family who came through the ranks at Rennes.
Two Brothers, Two Nations
The 2026 World Cup features a unique family storyline. Brothers Désiré and Guela Doué represented different national teams despite growing up side by side in France. Désiré committed to the French national team, while his older brother Guela chose Ivory Coast, their father’s homeland. Guela opted for Ivory Coast in 2024 and featured at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Early Career: From the Rennes Academy at Age Five
A Decade in Brittany
Doué kicked off his career in the Rennes youth academy at the age of five, signing his first professional contract with the club as a 16-year-old in April 2022.
Scouting legend Matthieu Le Scornet, then head of football at Rennes, remembered first noticing him. He recalls: “We did two or three rounds of selections and each time we saw the little one on the side with an old ball which was worn out.” Désiré’s base was not at all pass control — that’s what made him unique. “Frustrating, sassy, and roulette” were some of the words they described him as from early on.
Because of this raw, unpolished brilliance, Rennes fast-tracked him through the academy. The rest is history.
Professional Debut (August 2022)
Doué made his Ligue 1 debut for Rennes on August 7, 2022, playing 17 minutes as a substitute against Lorient at the age of 17 years and 65 days.
He did not stop there. Just weeks later, he scored his first European goal. That came in the form of an 89th-minute winner in the Europa League, Doué clinching a 2-1 home success against Dynamo Kyiv. He later described the moment: “I didn’t even see the ball go in — I saw the fans celebrating and screaming.”
Growing Into a Star at Rennes (2022–2024)
Doué’s time at Rennes was defined by consistent growth. Prior to moving to Paris Saint-Germain in August 2024, Doué made 57 league appearances in total at Rennes, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.
Moreover, he played alongside his brother Guéla at Rennes — a lifelong dream for both siblings. Few families can claim to have two siblings playing for the same top-flight team, but Désiré was joined in the Rennes squad by his brother Guéla — a lifelong ambition for the duo.
The PSG Move: Turning Down Bayern Munich
Europe’s Most Wanted Teenager
By the summer of 2024, Désiré Doué had become one of Europe’s most coveted young talents. Both PSG and Bayern Munich were in a fierce battle to sign him.
He ultimately chose PSG. In the post-match interview after joining, Doué stated that he didn’t regret his decision to sign for PSG instead of Bayern.
Official Transfer: August 2024
On 17 August 2024, Doué joined fellow Ligue 1 club PSG in a transfer worth €50 million. He signed a contract with the club until 2029 and was assigned the iconic number 14 shirt.
PSG’s sporting directors, president Nasser Al Khelaifi, and coach Luis Enrique all personally convinced him to make the move. It was a clear statement of intent from both club and player.
PSG Career: From Prospect to Champions League Hero
First Season at PSG (2024–25): The Year Everything Changed
Doué’s first season at the Parc des Princes exceeded every expectation. He contributed 15 goals and 14 assists across all competitions in his debut campaign.
However, one night in Munich defined everything.
The 2025 Champions League Final: A Legend is Born

PSG routed Inter Milan 5-0 in the final in Munich, with Doué scoring twice. He was just 19 years old. It was the kind of performance that footballing careers are remembered by.
Throughout his career, Désiré Doué has won 8 titles: Trophée des Champions (2025/2026, 2024/2025), Coupe de France (2024/2025), Champions League (2024/2025), UEFA Super Cup (2025/2026), FIFA Club World Cup (2025), and Ligue 1 (2024/2025) with Paris Saint-Germain, and UEFA U17 Championship (2022 Israel) with France U17.
Golden Boy 2025
Désiré Doué was named Golden Boy 2025, surpassing the greatest talents of his generation. The award is given annually to the best young footballer in Europe. It was a fitting recognition for one of the most electric breakout seasons in recent memory.
FIFA Club World Cup 2025
In the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals against Bayern Munich, a well-placed finish in the 79th minute from Désiré Doué proved to be the difference for PSG, who won 2-0. His low shot left legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer wrong-footed.
Second Season at PSG (2025–26): Cementing Legendary Status
Doué carried his brilliance into the 2025–26 season. In the 2025–26 season, Doué played 48 matches for the club, recording 14 goals and 8 assists.
Furthermore, heading into the 2026 Champions League final, Doué had posted 12 goals, eight assists, 28 chances created, and 34 crosses in 35 appearances for PSG.
Doué was directly involved in 13 goals across Champions League knockout matches — a record for any player under 21 in the competition’s history.
Desire Doué covered 15.4 kilometers during the Champions League final against Arsenal — a record for a PSG player in European competition this season.
Second Champions League Title (2026)
In the following season, he helped PSG win the Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League for a second time in a row, earning the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season.
International Career: Les Bleus Call

2026 FIFA World Cup
On 14 May 2026, Doué was chosen for the 26-man squad to play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He scored his first World Cup goal against Norway on 27 June 2026, scoring the final goal in a 4–1 victory during the last group stage game.
He has two goals in eight caps for France.
Additionally, France finished third at the 2025 Germany tournament with Doué as part of the squad.
Playing Style: What Makes Doué Different
Désiré Doué is not a standard winger. He is a complete attacking threat.
He operates primarily on the right wing. However, he is equally comfortable through the middle as an attacking midfielder. He combines explosive pace with sharp technical ability and an eye for goal in big moments.
His base was not at all pass control — that’s what made him unique from the very start. Rennes coaches described him as “Frustrating, sassy, and roulette” from early on.
His Champions League record for a player under 21 confirms one thing above all else. He delivers when it matters most.
