Who Is Triptii Dimri?
Triptii Dimri is one of the most compelling actresses working in Hindi cinema today. She is best known for her singles “If U Think I’m Pretty” and the viral “I Like the Way You Kiss Me” — wait, let me correct that. Triptii Dimri is an Indian actress known for Bulbbul (2020), Qala (2022), and Animal (2023). She works in Hindi films.
Born on February 23, 1994, in New Delhi, she has built a career on emotional precision and bold creative choices. She does not follow the path of least resistance. She follows the role.
Her journey is remarkable. She began in near-invisible cameos. Then she played Laila in a doomed love story few watched on opening day. Then she starred in two acclaimed films almost nobody saw in theatres. Then, in 2023, all of it caught up with her at once — and the world finally noticed. After content-driven films such as Laila Majnu, Bulbbul, Animal, and Dhadak 2, Triptii Dimri has placed herself in a new league of mainstream cinema.
Early Life: Roots in Garhwal, Growing Up in Delhi
A Garhwali Family With Strong Values
Triptii Dimri was born in New Delhi on 23 February 1994 into a Garhwali family to Meenakshi and Dinesh Dimri. Her family is from Chamoli, Uttarakhand.
Her father, Dinesh Prasad Dimri, works with Air India. Because of his job, the family settled in Delhi. Triptii and her family reside in Delhi because that is where her father works for Air India. He used to portray various Ramayan characters during their society’s Ramleela celebrations. That creative spark at home — a father performing on stage during festivals — planted the seed of artistic ambition in Triptii early on.
Her mother, Meenakshi Dimri, is a homemaker. She has a brother, Ashutosh Dimri, who works with Indian Airlines, and a sister, Kritika Dimri Papne, who is a software professional. The family has kept a notably low profile despite Triptii’s growing fame.
A Childhood Rooted in Two Worlds
Triptii’s identity carries both the cosmopolitan energy of Delhi and the cultural depth of the Garhwali hills. She speaks Hindi, English, and Garhwali. This dual identity — urban and Pahadi — gives her an authenticity on screen that is difficult to manufacture.
Education: From Delhi to Pune
Schooling at Delhi Public School, Firozabad
Dimri graduated from Delhi Public School in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. Delhi Public School is one of India’s most respected school chains, known for academic rigour and a culture of discipline.
A Psychology Degree From Sri Aurobindo College
After school, Triptii pursued a degree in psychology from Sri Aurobindo College, a constituent college of Delhi University. Her background in psychology is not merely an academic footnote. It informs the way she reads characters. It explains why she gravitates toward emotionally layered roles.
FTII Pune: Formal Acting Training
To sharpen her craft further, she joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune — one of Asia’s finest film schools. FTII has produced some of India’s most celebrated filmmakers and actors. Her decision to train there showed a seriousness of purpose that would later show up in every performance.
Career Journey: From Uncredited Dancer to Leading Lady
The Early Days: Background Roles (2013–2016)
Triptii’s path began quietly. In 2013, she appeared as an uncredited background dancer in Race 2 and Yamla Pagla Deewana 2. These were not glamorous beginnings. However, they were real ones.
She began her career as a model before transitioning to acting. Modelling taught her presence. It taught her how a body moves in front of a camera. Furthermore, it opened doors into the Hindi film industry.
Mom and Poster Boys (2017): The First Steps on Screen
In 2017, she appeared in Mom as Swati and in Poster Boys as Riya. Her role in Mom, the Sridevi thriller, was small. Her role in Poster Boys was similarly modest. However, each appearance built her confidence and visibility within the industry.
Laila Majnu (2018): The Role That Defined Her Early Career
Laila Majnu is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language romantic tragedy film directed by Sajid Ali, presented by Imtiaz Ali, and produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Preety Ali. The film stars Avinash Tiwary and newcomer Triptii Dimri.
Triptii played Laila — a role of devastating emotional complexity. While the film initially underperformed at the box office, it later gained a cult following after its digital release. In the years that followed, Laila Majnu was rediscovered by millions of viewers online. Suddenly, the performance that had gone unnoticed in theatres became one of the most talked-about debuts in recent Bollywood memory.
Bulbbul (2020): The Breakthrough
She then appeared in the 2020 supernatural drama Bulbbul, which was produced by Indian actress Anushka Sharma. Her portrayal earned critical acclaim and a Filmfare OTT Award for Best Actress.
Bulbbul, directed by Anvita Dutt, is a dark feminist folklore film set in colonial Bengal. Triptii’s performance as the title character was haunting, controlled, and completely unforgettable. It earned her the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Actress (Web Original Film) — a clear signal that a serious new talent had arrived.
Qala (2022): Critical Acclaim Deepens
In 2022, she starred in Qala, where she played an aspiring singer struggling in the music industry. Once again directed by Anvita Dutt, Qala gave Triptii one of the most emotionally demanding roles of her career. Dimri said that her role in Qala allowed her to diversify her filmography and challenge herself by exploring genres she had not previously worked in.
The film earned her a nomination for the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Actress. Furthermore, it confirmed that her work in Bulbbul was no accident. She was a consistent, serious actress — not a flash in the pan.
Animal (2023): The Mainstream Moment
In 2023, Dimri appeared in a supporting role in the blockbuster film Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor. The film proved to be a significant advancement in Dimri’s career, with her role gaining her wider recognition.
Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2023. The film got Triptii the tag of ‘national crush.’ She received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.
In a single film, years of critical recognition translated into mainstream stardom.
Three Films in 2024: Comedy and Commercial Success
2024 was Triptii’s busiest year yet. She starred in the comedy films Bad Newz and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, both 2024. She also appeared in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video in October 2024.
Having grown accustomed to working in more dramatic pieces, Dimri admitted to finding the comedy genre challenging. Nevertheless, she embraced it fully. Bad Newz and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 rank among the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2024.
Dhadak 2 (2025): Social Drama and New Depth
In 2025, she appeared in Dhadak 2, where she played the role of Vidhi, a young woman involved in an inter-caste relationship. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film starred Triptii alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi. It was released on August 1, 2025, and later streamed on Netflix from September 26, 2025. The film showed that Triptii could carry a socially charged narrative with conviction.
2026: Three Big Films, Three Different Shades
2026 has become a defining chapter. Triptii Dimri is moving into a new phase of mainstream cinema with a strong 2026 slate.
O’ Romeo (February 13, 2026)
O’ Romeo places Triptii Dimri opposite Shahid Kapoor for the first time, under Vishal Bhardwaj. Triptii plays Afshan Qureshi / Rani Sharma in this action-thriller. When one enters Vishal Bhardwaj’s world, romance is always a little dark and intense, and audiences place strong trust in Triptii to lend weight to the plot with her acting range and emotional understanding.
Maa Behen (June 4, 2026)
Maa Behen stars Madhuri Dixit as Rekha Sinha and Triptii Dimri as Jaya, Sushma’s elder sister. It was released on Netflix on 4 June 2026. As per reports, the duo plays a mother-daughter pair navigating a storm of emotions, laughter, and unexpected adventures. The film received strong reviews. Renuka Vyavahare of The Times of India gave it 3.5 stars out of 5 and said: “An entertaining crime-comedy that never turns into a pity party, Maa Behen has no interest in reforming society’s self-appointed moral guardians.”
Upcoming: Spirit (March 5, 2027)
Spirit reunites Triptii Dimri with Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, but this time as leading lady. Triptii Dimri stars alongside Prabhas. Reports suggest that Triptii will portray a glamorous doctor who falls in love with a cop played by Prabhas. Spirit is one of the most anticipated Hindi-Telugu films of 2027.
Personal Life: Private, Grounded, and Self-Aware
Triptii keeps her personal life largely away from the public eye. Her love life has often made the headlines, especially thanks to reports that she was dating businessman and model Sam Merchant. She has also been romantically linked in the media with Karnesh Sharma, Anushka Sharma’s brother, though she keeps her personal life largely private and rarely comments publicly on these rumours.
As of 2026, Triptii has not made any public announcement regarding a marriage and is unmarried.
She is currently based in Mumbai, where she has lived since establishing herself in the Hindi film industry. She continues to carry the warmth and groundedness of her Uttarakhand roots — a quality that her colleagues and interviewers consistently note.
