Who is Peter McDonald?

Peter McDonald is an Irish stage actor and a screen actor. Peter has also directed many movies. Academy nominated him for Best Live Action Short Film for his short film Pentecost, which he both wrote and directed.

Peter was born on 28 January 1972. His parents were Brenda Costigan and Richard McDonald. Likewise, Peter grew up in a loving home with his parents.

He grew up in Mount Merrion, County Dublin. He attended St. Michael’s College, Dublin; later,r he enrolled in  University College Dublin with a Bachelor of Arts, English and a Master of Fine Arts, English in 1994. Peter began engaging in theatre as part of UCD’s Drama Society, ty where he was also a member of the Fly by Night Theatre Company.

Profession, Career

McDonald made his debut at the young age of 25 in 1997. He played the character Git Hynes in the Irish comedy I Went Down, co-starring alongside Brendan Gleeson.

He has appeared in films including Felicia’s Journey (written and directed by Atom Egoyan, 1999) and When Brendan Met Trudy (written by Roddy Doyle and directed by Kieron J. Walsh, 2000); television series (the BBC’s Sea of Souls and Channel 4’s Green Wing); and theatre productions both in Dublin and London, including The Lieutenant of Inishmore and Days of Wine and Roses.

Peter co-starred with Jonathan Pryce and Aidan Gillen in a play called Glengarry Glen Ross. He features prominently in RTÉ’s comedy show Your Bad Self.

Moreover, he is the writer and director of Pentecost, a live-action short film. Pentecost was nominated for the 2012 Academy Award for  The Best Live Action Short Film. Peter was the co-writer and actor in the full-length movie, The Stag. It was nominated for six Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) awards in 2014.
