Supernatural — Young Dean Winchester (2009)

This is the role that changed everything. In the Season 4 episode “After School Special,” which aired on January 29, 2009, Brock Kelly played Dean Winchester at approximately 18 years old, opposite Colin Ford as young Sam Winchester.

The episode was a fan favorite. It explored the Winchester brothers’ difficult high school years and gave viewers a rare, emotional window into who Dean was before the hunting life fully consumed him. This was a much more romantically experienced and confident version of Dean than other actors who later portrayed him in younger years.

Brock Kelly’s performance was praised for capturing the essence of Jensen Ackles — no small feat. Jensen Ackles himself had created one of genre television’s most beloved characters. Therefore, stepping into those shoes required considerable skill, presence, and dedication.

The episode remains one of the most celebrated in Supernatural’s fifteen-season run. Because of it, Brock Kelly earned a lasting place in the show’s legacy and in the hearts of the Supernatural fandom worldwide.

In 2019, Kelly returned to Days of Our Lives in a more substantial role as Evan Frears, who is really Christian Maddox — the first bisexual character in the show’s history and the son of career criminal Orpheus.

Evan Frears originally came to Salem to work as a nanny for Rafe Hernandez, who was taking care of little David Ridgeway after the boy’s mother, Jordan Ridgeway, was murdered. The character’s dark secrets slowly unraveled, revealing a compelling and morally complex villain.

The actor was last seen as Evan on Days of Our Lives on October 28, 2020, when he brought Marlena to his father Orpheus’ hideout where John was being held. Evan knocked out Orpheus and left Marlena and John free to call the Salem PD before running off.

He returned beginning Friday, February 19, 2021, raising the question of whether Evan was reformed and ready to be a father to his son David — the boy he had with Jordan — or whether it was all a veil for what was yet to come.

This extended Days of Our Lives arc proved Brock Kelly’s ability to carry substantial dramatic weight across a major daytime network series.
