Who Is Artemas?

Artemas Diamandis, known by the mononym Artemas, is an English singer, songwriter, and record producer. He was born on September 23, 1999. He is one of the most exciting voices in alternative pop today.

His sound is dark. It is electric. It is deeply emotional.

He became a rare British breakout story, proving that strong creative convictions over following standard music industry checkmarks could pay real dividends.

He has since released four mixtapes and accumulated over 3.6 billion global streams to date. Furthermore, his rise from a bedroom producer in Oxfordshire to a Coachella headliner is nothing short of extraordinary.

Early Life: A Village, a Piano, and a Nirvana Documentary

Growing Up in Oxfordshire

Artemas grew up in a village in Oxfordshire, England. He is of Greek Cypriot descent from his father’s side.

He is an English-Cypriot singer-songwriter whose sound falls under the umbrella of alternative pop with a hint of R&B, creating catchy melodies and relatable lyrics.

Life in a quiet English village shaped him deeply. It gave him time. It gave him space. Most importantly, it gave him a hunger for something bigger.

The Piano, the Guitar, and a Life-Changing Documentary

Artemas began piano lessons at the age of six and developed an early interest in singing. However, music was not always his first ambition.

In his early teen years, he wanted to be an actor rather than a musician. Everything changed after he watched the documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck.

He later described that moment in vivid detail. “I’m 16 years old, it’s the school holidays, and I’m just passing the time,” he recalled. “I came across this Nirvana documentary on Netflix, and it changed my life. I watched it, and pretty much as it ended, I almost decided in my head I wanna be like him, I wanna make music, I wanna play shows. I just picked up a guitar and started writing songs.”

Education at Radley College

Artemas was educated at Radley College, one of England’s most prestigious independent boarding schools, located in Oxfordshire. He later moved to London to pursue his music career full-time.

An American Twang From English Soil

Many fans notice something unusual about Artemas’s voice. He sings with an American twang because the first songs he listened to as a child were all by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. “My mom is like the biggest Red Hot Chili Peppers fan ever, and so I kind of learned to sing doing impressions of Anthony Kiedis,” he explained.

Therefore, his voice carries the warmth of American rock icons even though he is proudly English.

Career Journey: From Bad Rock Songs to Billions of Streams

The Very First Song (2016) and Early Releases (2020)

Artemas debuted his career in 2016 with his first song, a self-described “very bad rock song,” when he was 17 years old. UK local radio played it. It was a small step. But it was the first.

His first official music release was the single “High 4 U” in November 2020. From there, he released music consistently. He built his sound, built his audience, and built his confidence.

I’m Sorry I’m Like This Mixtape (2022)

More singles followed, including the streaming hits “I’m Trynna Tell U That I Love U” and “Real Life.” Both appeared on his debut long-player, I’m Sorry I’m Like This, in 2022.

During this period, his sound drew early comparisons. His style was compared to that of Rex Orange County, “with a hint of R&B.” However, Artemas was already evolving beyond any single comparison.

The Viral Breakthrough: “If U Think I’m Pretty” (2023)

By 2023, Artemas had grown restless. He had grown disillusioned with the advice he was receiving from industry advisors. So he decided to be true to his own sound.

The result was extraordinary. On October 24, 2023, Artemas released the single “If U Think I’m Pretty,” which went viral shortly after. By 2024, the song had reached the UK and other European countries, as well as Canada and Australia.

The breakout single “If You Think I’m Pretty” earned 500 million streams and laid the foundation for everything that followed.

Pretty Mixtape (February 2024)

The single led to the release of his debut mixtape, Pretty in February 2024. It received widespread critical attention. Artemas was no longer underground. He was undeniable.

The Global Phenomenon: “I Like the Way You Kiss Me” (March 2024)

Then came the song that changed everything.

On March 19, 2024, Artemas released “I Like the Way You Kiss Me.” It reached number one in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Latvia, and Lithuania. Artemas released peaked at number three in the UK and number twelve in the US. It also entered the top ten in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Norway.

The song rose to number one on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, with 65.9 million streams in a single week outside the United States.

Artemas himself was candid about its creation. “Even the beat wasn’t finished. I was just freestyling, and the line came out: ‘I like the way you kiss me, I can tell you’re missing me.’ I posted it, and a week later, the internet just started rooting for it.”

The hit has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. It is a modern pop landmark.

Yustyna Mixtape (July 2024)

“I Like the Way You Kiss Me” anchored Artemas’s next mixtape, Yustyna, released in July 2024. The release topped Billboard’s Heatseekers chart.

The Yustyna mixtape debuted at number 4 on the Global Spotify Chart and helped him rack up over 1.9 billion total streams across platforms.

Additionally, the track landed on Billboard’s Staff List: Best Songs of 2024 and numerous year-end playlists from Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

Sold-Out Tours and Festival Domination (2024)

Artemas completed his second global headline tour of 2024, selling over 50,000 tickets across 75 dates.

His two London shows in February 2024 sold out in just 20 minutes. Furthermore, he performed at prestigious festivals worldwide, including Reading Festival, Leeds Festival, The Great Escape, Lovebox, Glastonbury, and Wireless Festival.

Coachella 2025: A Desert Milestone

In April 2025, Artemas made his debut at Coachella. He described it as the biggest production he had ever staged, planning the set for four to five months.

“Coachella was a highlight that was pretty wild,” he admitted. “I had such a great time, and the show was packed.”

The Coachella performances capped a year in which he also received a BRIT Award nomination for “Song of the Year” for “I Like the Way You Kiss Me.”

LOVERCORE Mixtape (October 2025)

Artemas’s fourth mixtape, LOVERCORE, consisting of 14 songs, was released on October 24, 2025.

The project shares the same bleak, intense shades of Depeche Mode’s 1986 album Black Celebration. Songs like “Superstar” and “Southbound” reflect on intoxicating relationships, set to Nine Inch Nails-sized beats.

Artemas himself coined the term “lovercore” to describe his genre, dark, sexy, synthpop that captures every shade of yearning and self-sabotage. It is not just a genre label; it is a mood, and it is a movement.

Getting Up to No Good Mixtape (March 2026)

Artemas’s fifth mixtape, Getting Up to No Good, was released on March 27, 2026. It contains 10 tracks across approximately 25 minutes of music.

The project is led by the double release “psychokiller” and “myself.” Together, they represent two sides of the same restless propulsion that defines his artistry.

A massive North American and European tour to support both LOVERCORE and Getting Up to No Good was announced for 2026, kicking off in Vancouver in September. Artemas shows no signs of slowing down.

Musical Style: Defining “Lovercore”

Artemas does not fit neatly into one genre. That is precisely the point.

He makes eclectic alternative pop that sounds as if he digested all of the music of the 1990s. It can be hard to say if any one of his songs is specifically indebted to rock, pop, R&B, hip-hop, or electronic music, but the debt is always there.

“I don’t like writing about mundane or overly sentimental stuff,” Artemas has said. “All my lyrics are big and instinctive. Like when you meet someone, and you become obsessed with them, or when someone breaks up with you and you just hate them. That’s what I like to sing about.”

He draws inspiration from a wide range of icons. These include Bruno Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Rex Orange County. Moreover, he has also collaborated with Illangelo, the legendary producer behind The Weeknd’s 2011 Trilogy.

Personal Life: The Person Behind the Music

Artemas is signed to the record label 10K Projects. He plays vocals, guitar, and keyboards, and also self-produces much of his work.

He is of Greek Cypriot descent from his father’s side. His mother, a devoted Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, gave him his very first musical influences. He is currently based in London.

He has met high-profile admirers along the way. Famous fans include Finneas O’Connell, brother and producer of Billie Eilish.

Artemas remains grounded despite his rapid rise. “It would be the death of me to chase that again,” he said of replicating the success of ‘I Like the Way You Kiss Me.’ “Those songs are so random. You have to stay honest.”
