John Leone: Professional Life
John worked as a studio musician and producer at Clover Recorders in a partnership with Charles Plotkin. Before that, he worked as a Stegner Fellow in Creative Writing at Stanford, then as a Directing Fellow at the American Film Institute. From 1972 to 1982, he worked with his brother Michael Leone in a family-owned company that owned recording studios and produced, financed, and distributed 28 films in ten years.
They also produced the first anti-Vietnam War film, ‘Go Tell The Spartans’. In 1976, he directed the first film, Last of the Cowboys, starring Henry Fonda, Susan Sarandon, and Eileen Brennan. He wrote a script for Intermedia and Oliver Stone from his novel Jihad in 2004. In 2010, he published ‘The Crowd Dreams of Love’. His other novels are Imaginary Numbers, World of Souls, and The Theatricals

In 1970, John won the Book-of-the-Month Club Award as the best first novelist in America through a national competition.
