Post Malone
Who Is Post Malone?
Post Malone is one of the most successful and influential musicians of his generation. His real name is Austin Richard Post. He was born on July 4, 1995, in Syracuse, New York. Today, he is 30 years old.
He is a singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer. His music blends hip-hop, pop, R&B, rock, trap, and most recently, country. No single genre can contain him — and that is exactly the point.
He first came to the world’s attention in 2015 with his debut single “White Iverson.” Since then, he has released six studio albums, racked up billions of streams, and collaborated with artists from Taylor Swift to Beyoncé to Morgan Wallen.
Post Malone is not just a musician. He is a cultural phenomenon.
Early Life: From Syracuse to Grapevine, Texas
A Musical Household From the Start
Austin Richard Post was born on July 4, 1995, in Syracuse, New York. His father is Rich Post, and his mother is Nicole Frazier Lake. Austin’s parents separated during his childhood, and he was raised primarily by his father and stepmother, Jodie.
Music was always in the air. Rich worked as a wedding DJ in central New York and introduced his son to a variety of music, including hard rock bands like AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, and Twisted Sister.
Because of this early exposure, Austin developed an ear for diverse sounds. He was drawn to rock, country, and hip-hop from a very young age. Furthermore, he is of Polish, English, and Scottish descent.
Moving to Texas
When Malone was nine years old, he and his family moved to Grapevine, Texas, after his father became the manager of concessions for the Dallas Cowboys football team.
Texas gave him space. It gave him community. Most importantly, it gave him a musical identity rooted in country, rock, and hip-hop that would eventually define his career.
Guitar Hero, a Talent Show, and a Name Generator
Austin became interested in making his own music after playing the video game Guitar Hero and winning his eighth-grade talent show with a metalcore cover of “Umbrella” by Rihanna.
That moment was electric. It told him something important — he could command a stage.
At the age of 15, he began to write rap bars and released his first mixtape called Young and After Them Riches the following year, which led his classmates to dub him “Most Likely to Become Famous.”
He chose his now ubiquitous stage name, Post Malone, when he was around 14 or 15 after typing his legal name into an internet rap name generator.
The Crown the Empire Audition
Malone began to play the guitar and auditioned for the American band Crown the Empire in 2010, but was rejected after his guitar strings broke during the audition.
It was a setback. However, it was not a stop sign. Instead, it pushed him further toward creating his own sound entirely.
Education and the Move to Los Angeles
Post Malone enrolled at Tarrant County College in Texas after high school. He dropped out shortly after. He then moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue his music career full-time. That decision changed everything.
The Breakthrough: “White Iverson” and the Rise to Fame (2015–2016)
“White Iverson” Changes Everything
Post Malone uploaded “White Iverson” to SoundCloud on February 26, 2015. The song was a tribute to NBA legend Allen Iverson. It spread like wildfire almost immediately.
The track peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was later certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA. Within months, Post Malone had transformed from a bedroom producer in Los Angeles into one of the most-talked-about new artists in America.
Signing With Republic Records and Opening for Justin Bieber
The buzz around “White Iverson” led to a recording contract with Republic Records. This was a major turning point. Furthermore, before touring on his own, he opened for Justin Bieber on his Purpose World Tour in 2016.
Performing for Bieber’s massive arena crowds gave him invaluable experience. It also introduced him to millions of new fans worldwide.
Discography: Six Albums, One Unstoppable Journey
Stoney (2016) — The Foundation
Post Malone released his debut studio album Stoney in December 2016. It was a bold arrival. It contained the diamond single “Congratulations” featuring Quavo and set the record for most weeks — 77 — on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Stoney also featured the top 100 hits “I Fall Apart” and “Deja Vu” featuring Justin Bieber. The album was certified double platinum by the RIAA. Post Malone had officially arrived.
Beerbongs & Bentleys (2018) — The Record-Breaker
His second album shattered expectations. Beerbongs & Bentleys debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and set several streaming records. It also contained the US number-one singles “Rockstar” featuring 21 Savage and “Psycho” featuring Ty Dolla Sign and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 61st Grammy Awards.
“Rockstar” held the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight consecutive weeks. This was a historic achievement. Rolling Stone declared him “one of the most popular musicians in the country” in 2017.
Hollywood’s Bleeding (2019) — The Mainstream Titan
His third album, Hollywood’s Bleeding, continued his run of blockbuster hits with “Sunflower,” a song with rapper Swae Lee that had appeared on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Moreover, “Circles” reached number one and set the record for most weeks — 39 — in the top ten on the Hot 100. It was another extraordinary achievement.
Twelve Carat Toothache (2022) — The Pandemic Reflection
His next album, Twelve Carat Toothache, was released in 2022 and dwelt on his restlessness during the Covid-19 pandemic.
It featured the hit “I Like You (A Happier Song)” with Doja Cat and “One Right Now” with The Weeknd. Additionally, it earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The album was introspective. It was honest. It was a window into a more vulnerable Post Malone.
Austin (2023) — The Personal Return
In 2023, Post Malone released Austin — a deeply personal, guitar-heavy album named after his real first name. It featured the top-40 hits “Chemical” and “Mourning.”
Post Malone was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2023. This honor cemented his legacy as one of the great pop songwriters of his era.
Furthermore, in 2023, he had the rare honor of appearing on albums by Beyoncé and Taylor Swift released just weeks apart from each other, cementing his status as one of the more pliant and ubiquitous artists of his generation.
F-1 Trillion (2024) — The Country Revolution
Post Malone’s sixth studio album was his boldest move yet. F-1 Trillion was released through Mercury and Republic Records on August 16, 2024. The album marks Malone’s transition to country music.
He began his F-1 Trillion era in April with a surprise performance at the famed Ryman Auditorium, followed a few weeks later by his headlining set at Stagecoach, where he performed a host of country covers.
The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and charted all 18 songs, including the lead single “I Had Some Help,” his collaboration with Morgan Wallen.
The album features an astonishing guest list. It features guest appearances from Tim McGraw, Hank Williams Jr., Morgan Wallen, Blake Shelton, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, Chris Stapleton, Hardy, and Billy Strings.
F-1 Trillion is nominated for Best Country Album at the 2025 Grammys, one of Malone’s eight nods for the year. The album is also a deeply personal one. “For a while, it was heavy on me,” he admitted. “And for once, I’m not sad anymore.”
Milestone Moments: Super Bowls, VMAs, and Beyoncé
Super Bowl LVIII (February 2024)
In February 2024, Post Malone delivered a performance of “America the Beautiful” at Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.
Performing for one of the biggest television audiences on the planet, he demonstrated a calm, commanding stage presence that left viewers stunned. It was one of the most watched moments of his career.
The 2024 MTV VMAs: Five Moon Persons
Going into the night, Taylor Swift led all nominees with 12 nods, followed by her “Fortnight” collaborator Post Malone with 11 — and they left as the top two as well. Swift scored seven wins, and Post had five, including their top win of the night when “Fortnight” was named video of the year.
Taylor Swift said, “There is a very clear reason why Post Malone is everyone in music’s favorite person to collaborate with. It is because you are so ridiculously talented. You’re the most down-to-earth person.”
Collaborating With Beyoncé
Post Malone also appeared on Beyoncé’s critically acclaimed country album Cowboy Carter in 2024, joining her on the track “Levii’s Jeans.” He also honored Dickey Betts with a cover of “Ramblin’ Man” with Reba McEntire at the 2024 ACM Awards.
These appearances confirmed what fans already knew. Post Malone is the artist every other artist wants in their corner.
Musical Style: The Art of Sounding Like Everything and Nothing
Post Malone refuses to be boxed into a genre. His music has been described as a “melting pot of grunge, country, R&B, and hip-hop.” He has always been clear about this.
“I don’t want to be a rapper,” he once declared. “I just want to be a person that makes music.”
He cites Bob Dylan as a godlike influence. He loves alternative rock. He grew up on country. He found his voice through Guitar Hero and metalcore covers. Therefore, his sound is not the result of a calculated marketing decision — it is simply who he is.
His music consistently explores themes of loneliness, love, sadness, and self-reflection, wrapped inside melodies so infectious they feel impossible to escape.
Personal Life: Fatherhood, Tattoos, and a Private Heart
A Daughter Who Changed Everything
In 2022, Post Malone and his fiancée welcomed their first child together — a baby girl. He has kept both her name and his partner’s identity private. However, he has been open about what fatherhood means to him.
Part of his growth is due to his own personal growth, especially since the birth of his daughter, now 2, to whom he dedicated the album’s sweet closing song.
His daughter inspired him to cut back on some of his unhealthier vices. She also inspired “Yours,” a heartwarming ode to her featured on F-1 Trillion.
The Tattoos That Tell His Story
Post Malone is one of the most recognizable faces in music — partly due to his extensive tattoo collection. He has tattoos on his face, neck, arms, and chest. These include “Always Tired” and “Stay Away” beneath his eyes, as well as a tattoo of former President John F. Kennedy on one of his arms, reflecting his personal admiration for the late leader.
Each tattoo tells a story. Together, they form a visual autobiography of a young man who has lived loudly and felt deeply.
Currently Based in Utah
Post Malone currently lives in a large home in Utah, far from the bright lights of Hollywood. The space gives him creative freedom and privacy — two things he values deeply. He has described Utah as the perfect place to focus on music, family, and life.
