Who Is Lauren Gold?

Lauren Gold is an English model and actress born on January 9, 1981, in Enfield, London. She is most recognised as the DJ in Robbie Williams’s “Rock DJ” music video, as well as for her recurring appearance in La Senza ad campaigns. Gold’s best-known acting role is Scarlett Rose in Sky One drama Dream Team.

She comes from a remarkable family. Her father, Warren Gold, co-founded the iconic Lord John fashion boutique on Carnaby Street. Her mother, Valerie, was a leading model in the 1960s.

Therefore, fashion was never far away. It was the air she breathed growing up.

Gold is among the top 1000 models on Fashion Model Directory. Furthermore, her career spans over three decades. It began at age 13 and continues to this day.

Early Life: A Fashion Dynasty in North London

Born Into Fashion

Lauren Gold was born on 9 January 1981 in Enfield, London, to Warren Gold, founder of the iconic Lord John fashion store on Carnaby Street, and Valerie Levey, a prominent fashion model in the 1960s. She was the second child in her immediate family, with an older brother named James and a younger sister named Francesca, as well as three older half-siblings from her father’s first marriage.

Growing up, Gold was in awe of her mother. A top model in the 1960s, her mother’s pictures adorned their house. Those photographs sparked something in Lauren. However, Gold was the only one who wanted to pursue modelling as a career.

The Lord John Legacy

Lord John was a British men’s fashion retailer that opened its first store at 43 Carnaby Street, London, at the corner with Ganton Street, in 1963. The first Lord John boutique was opened by the brothers Warren, Harold and David Gold in Carnaby Street in 1963. The store became one of the defining fashion landmarks of the Swinging Sixties.

This heritage ran deep in Lauren’s blood. Fashion was not simply a career choice. It was her family’s story.

Modelling Career: From Child Model to Fashion Icon

The Beginning: Now Models and Select (1993–2002)

When Gold was 13, her mother, who had been a model in the 1960s, sent pictures of her to children’s modelling agencies. She signed with her first agency, Now Models.

Due to her height and build, Gold was able to segue from child model to fashion model. She moved on to Select Model Management in London, where she was developed into a fashion model. In the fall of 1996, she appeared on the cover of Marie Claire in the United Kingdom.

One of her earliest jobs was an appearance in music videos by Roxette. Additionally, early in her career, she appeared in music videos by Roxette and MJ Cole (“Crazy Love”) as well as adverts for Marks & Spencer and Next.

Take 2 Model Management (2002–2006)

By 2002, Gold left Select in favour of Take 2 Model Management. While at Take 2, Gold branched out as both an editorial model and a commercial model.

Take 2 was no ordinary agency. Gold signed with the now-defunct Take 2 Model Management who represented top fashion models such as Natalia Vodianova, Esther Canadas, and Jacquetta Wheeler.

Despite being a fashion model, Gold has appeared in men’s magazine Maxim as well as advertisements for Coca-Cola and Vodafone.

Furthermore, in 2004, Gold modelled for lingerie catalogue Figleaves up until 2005. In October 2005, she walked in the Agent Provocateur Charity Fashion Show in London.

NEXT London and the La Senza Deal (2006 onwards)

The following year, Gold moved again. She signed with NEXT London. With Next, Gold landed her most lucrative endorsement deal to date with La Senza. This campaign became one of the most recognisable chapters of her modelling career.

Models 1 and Continued Success (2008–2011)

In 2008, Gold signed to Models 1. By summer 2011, Gold shot campaigns for Figleaves.com, John Lewis, and Littlewoods. She was also featured in the Figleaves.com Autumn/Winter 2011 Lookbook.

In September 2011, Gold landed in the Top 1000 Models on Fashion Model Directory.

Her major editorial clients have included Grazia, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Woman, Woman & Home, and She Magazine. Her brand campaigns have spanned Marks & Spencer, La Senza, Bora Aksu, Debenhams, John Lewis, Nefer Lingerie, Truworths, Pantene, Coca-Cola, and Vodafone.

The “Rock DJ” Moment: One Video That Changed Everything

Robbie Williams’s Most Iconic Video (2000)

In 2000, Lauren Gold landed one of the most memorable roles in British pop culture. He wants to get the attention of the female DJ (played by Lauren Gold) standing above the stage, so he begins taking off his clothes.

The video became an instant cultural landmark. “Rock DJ” reached number one in Costa Rica, Estonia, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom whilst reaching the top 10 in 16 other countries. It was Robbie Williams’ third number-one solo single in the United Kingdom, going on to sell over 1.2 million copies and being certified 2× platinum by the British Phonographic Industry.

Moreover, in 2001, “Rock DJ” won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Special Effects. The video’s impact was global. Lauren Gold was at the centre of it.

Acting Career: From the Music Video to the TV Screen

Dream Team — Scarlett Rose (2006)

Gold’s best-known acting role is Scarlett Rose in Sky One drama Dream Team. She appeared in a recurring role in the popular football soap opera. Despite filming for Dream Team, Gold continued to land modelling campaigns, including Truworths in South Africa.

Beyond the Rave (2008)

In 2008, Gold starred in the horror film Beyond the Rave as Lucretia. The film marked a further expansion of her acting ambitions beyond television.

Personal Life: Family, Marriage, and a Carnaby Street Legacy

Early Relationships

In her early career, she allegedly dated Westlife singer Mark Feehily in 1999. The pair kept a low profile due to his boy band status, with the exception of attending the Coyote Ugly premiere together. Several years after the breakup, Feehily came out of the closet.

In 2000, the model was linked to her “Rock DJ” co-star Robbie Williams.

Marriage to Gabe Turner

In November 2011, Lauren Gold married film director and producer Gabe Turner. The couple has maintained a private family life. In 2024, the home she shares with her husband and three children was featured in the Telegraph.

Honouring Her Father’s Legacy

In 2017, two years after her father’s passing, Gold, along with her sister Francesca, unveiled a plaque to commemorate the iconic Lord John shop at 43 Carnaby Street, London.

It was a deeply personal moment. Warren Gold had passed away in 2015. However, his contribution to British fashion — and to London’s cultural identity — was now permanently marked in stone on the street that defined a generation.
