Early Life: Chicago Roots and a Family Built on Basketball

Born and Raised on the South Side

Aneesah Morrow was born on February 2, 2003, in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Simeon Career Academy in Chicago, Illinois.

Chicago shaped Aneesah deeply. It made her tough. It made her hungry. Everything she does on the court reflects the grit of the city that raised her.

A Family of Athletes

Basketball runs through the Morrow family like a current. Her parents both played collegiate sports at Nebraska. Her father, Edward, was a linebacker, while her mother, Nafeesah, was an all-conference forward on the women’s basketball team.

Nafeesah has since been inducted into Nebraska’s athletic Hall of Fame and went on to a career as a high school coach and athletic director.

Therefore, Aneesah did not just inherit athletic ability. She inherited a standard of excellence.

Her brother, Ed, played basketball at Nebraska and Marquette. Her older sister, Nazlah, played basketball at Miami Dade Junior College and DePaul. When Aneesah committed to DePaul, her sister Nazlah committed on the same day.

High School Glory at Simeon Career Academy

As a junior, Morrow led Simeon High School to its first girls’ basketball state championship. She led them to their first Class 3A state title in 2020.

Following the season, she was named an All-State first team selection by the Associated Press, Champaign News-Gazette, and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA).

She was also the number one recruit in Illinois coming out of the class of 2021.

College Career: From DePaul to LSU

DePaul University: A Historic Freshman Year (2021–2023)

Morrow played two seasons at DePaul University from 2021 to 2023.

In her first career game on November 9, 2021, she recorded 31 points and nine rebounds against Texas Southern. The statement was clear from day one.

She did not slow down after that. She led the country in rebounds per game and double-doubles. She earned the USBWA and WBCA National Freshman of the Year awards. She was also named Big East Freshman of the Year and earned first-team All-Big East honors.

She set a DePaul single-game scoring record with a career-high 45 points against Northwestern on December 10, 2022.

Moreover, she became the fifth player in NCAA women’s basketball history to record more than 20 consecutive double-doubles in a season.

She fashioned 53 double-doubles in 66 career games at DePaul.

The Transfer: Choosing LSU (2023–2025)

Morrow began her college career at DePaul, an easy place for family to attend games during her two seasons there. But her parents supported her decision to transfer in 2023.

On May 5, 2023, Morrow announced she was transferring to LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She wanted to compete for national championships. She wanted to be tested at the highest level. So she made the move.

LSU Tigers: Becoming a Legend (2023–2025)

At LSU, Aneesah Morrow elevated her game dramatically. She earned first-team All-SEC honors in both of her seasons with the Tigers. Additionally, she was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team in her final season.

She led LSU with 19 points in the 2024 National Championship game against South Carolina, a game in which LSU narrowly lost 72-79.

During her senior season at LSU, she led NCAA Division I women’s basketball in rebounding. She averaged 14.1 rebounds per game. Furthermore, she set an LSU single-season record with 1,211 minutes played during the 2024-25 season.

Following her dominant performances, she was named AP and ESPN’s Player of the Week, as well as the SEC Player of the Week, and was included in the USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week team.

She is the first player in LSU history to claim the Basketball Hall of Fame’s Katrina McClain Award as the nation’s top power forward, after receiving the honor in the 2024-25 season.

She finished her college career with nine All-America certificates. She left LSU as one of the greatest players in women’s college basketball history.

WNBA Career

2025 WNBA Draft: 7th Overall Pick

Morrow was selected 7th overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun.

Rookie Season With the Connecticut Sun (2025)

Morrow appeared in 41 regular season games for the Sun, starting in 23. She averaged 7.7 points, a team-high 6.9 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game during her rookie season.

Among all WNBA rookies in 2025, she ranked second in rebounds per game, ninth in scoring, ninth in steals, and sixth in blocks.

She recorded 14 games with double-digit scoring and posted eight double-doubles. She delivered a career-high 20 points against the Seattle Storm on June 27. She grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds versus the New York Liberty on August 25. She led or co-led the Sun in rebounds on 20 occasions.

Traded to the Toronto Tempo (July 31, 2026)

In her second WNBA season, Morrow’s numbers took a significant leap. She was averaging 11.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and a steal on 23.2 minutes per game while shooting 42.1% from the floor. Through 20 games with the Sun, she had recorded nine double-doubles. She was coming off back-to-back 21-point performances.

Then came the trade. The Toronto Tempo acquired forward Aneesah Morrow from the Connecticut Sun for Toronto’s second-round draft pick in 2028 and the rights to Maria Kliundikova.

Tempo general manager Monica Wright Rogers said: “She’s a relentless competitor who impacts the game in so many ways, particularly with her ability to rebound at a high level. We believe she’s one of the emerging frontcourt talents in this league.”

Morrow was gracious about the move. “I’m honestly grateful to be here,” Morrow said after joining Toronto.

She offered a window into her burgeoning outside game in her Toronto debut, sinking a no-hesitation triple to open up her scoring account in Tempo colors.

2026 Season Stats (Combined)

In the 2026 WNBA season, she is averaging 10.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game, shooting 39.9% from the field.

Personal Life: Family Is Everything

Aneesah Morrow is deeply connected to her roots. She credits her parents for her work ethic and competitive spirit. Her mother Nafeesah played basketball at Nebraska and is now an athletic Hall of Famer. Her father Edward played football for the Cornhuskers.

DePaul coach Doug Bruno knew about Morrow long before her high school dominance. He tried to recruit her mother three decades earlier and started watching Aneesah in middle school.

When LSU headed to Chicago to play UIC, Morrow had at least 40 family members in the crowd, as well as kids from her high school and elementary school. That is the kind of community she carries with her wherever she goes.
