Who Is Margot Robbie?
Margot Elise Robbie is an acclaimed Australian actress and producer. She was born on July 2, 1990, and is widely regarded as one of the most powerful women in Hollywood. She is known for her performances in both blockbuster and independent films.
Her story is not simply one of fame. It is a story of grit. It is a story of ambition. Most importantly, it is a story of a girl from a small Australian town who refused to be anything but extraordinary.
Margot Robbie has been nominated for three Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and six British Academy Film Awards. Furthermore, she was named the world’s highest-paid actress in 2023.
Beyond the screen, she co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment — one of Hollywood’s most respected production companies — and has become a creative force shaping modern cinema on her own terms.
Early Life: A Farm, a Circus School, and Three Jobs at Once
Born in Dalby, Queensland
Margot Robbie was born and raised in Dalby, Queensland, Australia. She grew up on a farm with her siblings and was raised by her mother, Sarie Kessler, a physiotherapist.
Life was simple. Life was hardworking. And life was full of outdoor adventure.
When she was five years old, her parents separated. She and her siblings were raised by their single mother and had minimal contact with their father. Margot spent the majority of her upbringing on her grandparents’ Currumbin Valley farm.
She is the second youngest of four children — older siblings Anya and Lachlan, and a younger brother, Cameron.
The Girl Who Could Fly
Her mother enrolled her in a circus school, where she excelled in trapeze. She received a certificate in trapeze at the age of eight.
This early physical discipline taught her fearlessness. It taught her balance. Additionally, it taught her to trust herself — a lesson that would prove invaluable on some of the world’s biggest film sets.
Three Jobs and a Dream
Margot Robbie has never been afraid of hard work. As a teenager, she worked three jobs — she tended a bar, cleaned houses, and worked at Subway.
She did not wait for opportunities to find her. She went out and earned them — one shift at a time.
Education at Somerset College
Margot Robbie studied drama at Somerset College in high school. Her first acting role came when she was in high school. This foundational training gave her the technical confidence to step into professional roles with authority and precision.
Career: From Neighbours to the Silver Screen
The Beginning: Neighbours (2008–2011)
Robbie began her acting career in 2008 on the television soap opera Neighbours, where she appeared as a regular until 2011. Her performance as Donna Freedman earned her award nominations and gave her national recognition across Australia.
However, she had bigger dreams. Therefore, she made the bold decision to relocate to the United States.
Pan Am and the American Dream (2011–2012)
After relocating to the US, she starred in the television drama Pan Am (2011–2012). It was her first major American role. It opened doors. Moreover, it proved she could hold her own in the competitive landscape of American television.
The Global Breakthrough: The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Everything changed in 2013.
Her big breakthrough came in 2013 when she starred opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s blockbuster film The Wolf of Wall Street. Her portrayal of Naomi Lapaglia was widely praised and made her an overnight global sensation.
Her role as Naomi — DiCaprio’s Brooklyn bombshell wife and “the Duchess of Bay Ridge” — helped launch her mainstream career. The world had never seen anything quite like it. And they have never forgotten it.
Almost Walking Away
Fame came fast. But it also came with pressure.
After playing a part in the Oscar-nominated film, Robbie questioned if she wanted to continue to act. “Something was happening in those early stages, and it was all pretty awful,” Robbie recalled.
Yet she stayed. She persevered. And she chose to keep going — a decision that would eventually lead her to become one of the most decorated actresses of her generation.
Career Highlights: A Decade of Defining Roles
Suicide Squad and the Birth of Harley Quinn (2016)
Margot’s role as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad (2016) became one of the most iconic performances of her career. The character became a cultural phenomenon. She reprised the role in Birds of Prey (2020) and The Suicide Squad (2021), further cementing her as one of DC’s most beloved stars.
I, Tonya — First Oscar Nomination (2017)

Then came Barbie.
In 2023, Robbie starred as the iconic title character in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, alongside Ryan Gosling. The film made more than $1.4 billion at the box office and cemented the star as Hollywood royalty.
Robbie’s absence from the Best Actress race has been cited as one of the biggest Oscar snubs, alongside Barbie director Greta Gerwig’s in the directing category. Nevertheless, she remained gracious. “There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed,” she said.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (2025)
Robbie joined co-star Colin Farrell in the romantic fantasy A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (2025), with a cast including Kevin Kline, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Sarah Gadon, released by Sony Pictures.

From the viral press tour videos to Robbie’s iconic gothic romance fashion looks, the long-awaited release was all anyone was talking about.
LuckyChap Entertainment: The Producer Behind the Power
Building a Production Empire
Margot Robbie is not just a star. She is a maker of stars and stories.
Ackerley and Robbie co-founded their production company LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014 and have since produced Robbie’s movies like I, Tonya and Barbie. They also produced both of filmmaker Emerald Fennell’s movies, Promising Young Woman and Saltburn.
LuckyChap focuses on films with a female focus or female storytellers, which “feel like they have the potential to penetrate culture and a reason to exist.”
A Pipeline of Bold Projects
Projects in the pipeline include two directorial efforts from Olivia Wilde, new TV shows from Maid‘s Molly Smith Metzler and My Old Ass‘s Megan Park, and a movie from Irish director Rich Peppiatt.
Furthermore, production begins next year on a 1960s Europe-set Ocean’s Eleven prequel she’s starring in with Bradley Cooper. Robbie has also expressed a desire to step behind the camera herself as a director — a natural next step for one of Hollywood’s sharpest creative minds.
